The second volume of the Mathematical Papers of Sir William Rowan Hamilton (1805-1865) is mainly devoted to dynamics but it was thought desirable to include in it Hamilton's Calculus of Principal Relations, which is a natural and obvious extension of his method of the principal function. The greater part of this volume is now appearing in print for the first time, the only papers previously published being his two famous essays on dynamics and a number of minor papers. A detailed description of the contents will be found in the Introduction.
