Killebrew A.E. Biblical Peoples And Ethnicity: An Archaeological Study of Egyptians, Canaanites, Philistines, And Early Israel 1300-1100 B.C.E
Atlanta: Society of Biblical Literature, 2005. — 362 pp. — (Society of Biblical Literature archaeology and biblical studies; no. 9). — ISBN: 978-1-58983-097-4.
The transformation that occurred at the end of the Late Bronze Age irrevocably changed the entire ancient Mediterranean world. This period of transition is a fitting case study in cultural diversity and the material manifestations of ethnicity that in some cases correspond to well-defined material culture boundaries. It represents different aspects of culturally or ethnically identified populations resulting from socioeconomic and cultural phenomena-imperialism, ethnogenesis, and colonization-of the tumultuous final centuries of the second millennium B.C.E. This book proposes that economic, political, societal, and ideological developments during the thirteenth-twelfth centuries B.C.E. created an environment ripe for the creation of identifiable group boundaries of Egyptians, Canaanites, early Israelites, and Philistines-key players in the later formation of the world of the Hebrew Bible.
