Ramage C.S. Monsoon meteorology
Academic Press, 1971. — 300 p.
The facts of monsoon climate have been presented in a number of texts and atlases. Geographers and climatologists have written books on the monsoons. While climate and statistics were treated, these chroniclers seldom accounted for normals, standard deviations, and variabilities in terms of the day-to-day weather of which climate is made. Most emphasis was placed on the solstices; conditions at the height of summer and, more rarely, at the height of winter were described. The radical transformations between solstices were not discussed. This book is constructed around synoptic systems common in the monsoon area. Differing sequences and frequencies of these systems are related to both regional and interannual variations in the character of the monsoons. Changes in the mix of synoptic systems through the transition seasons must be comprehended too, as essential parts of the dramatic annual cycle which is the monsoon hallmark. Using synoptic models as building blocks, a monsoon area structure of linked diversity becomes possible. This book is directed specifically to upper division undergraduate or graduate students of meteorology or climatology who have studied theoretical meteorology for at least a year, and to professional meteorologists working or expecting to work in the monsoon area.
