Standard Publishing, 1960. — 384 p.In the present book accordingly the instructional matter has been reduced to a minimum and is to be regarded as a summary (though, I hope, a thorough one) of what the pupil should already have learned in class. The one exception to this is in the chapter on utill and shall, where, owing to the confusion which seems to reign in the minds of pupils, and often, it is to be feared, in the minds of even educated adults as well, a fuller treatment seemed desirable. Emphasis has also been laid upon points of special difficulty and on those matters which experience has shown often prove traps for the unwary, and attention has been drawn to common grammatical errors and to certain regional peculiarities which violate standard grammatical usage.
