Newton Michael. The Encyclopedia of Robberies, Heists and Capers
Facts on File, 2002. — 432 p.
Contains over 250 alphabetically arranged entries that provide information about some of the world's most famous robberies, the people who committed them, and the cops. Includes photographs and a bibliography. The book provides an engaging review of the world's most famous robberies, the felons who committed them, and the men and women who brought the criminals to justice. With more than 250 entries, 70 photographs and an extensive bibliography, this Encyclopedia is a must-have crime reference for students, crime historians, and crime buffs alike. In this book you'll find many fascinating cases: The 1950 Brinks robbery in Boston, The 1978 Lufthansa airport robbery ( seen in the movie "Goodfellas" ), The 1965 Brinks robbery in New York, just to name a few. Also listed in this volume is the History of jewel theft ( all the important cases are listed ), Train robbery, Bank robbery, Skyjacking, and Art theft. In this book you'll find biographies of some of the most legendary names in history: John Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, Harvey John Bailey, Baby Face Nelson, D.B. Cooper, Frank Nash, and so many more. A lot of the entries are about Outlaws and gangs: Butch Cassidy, Jesse James, The Ma Barker gang, Joaquin Murrieta, and others. There's also a number of entries about lawmen, such as Melvin Purvis and J. Edgar Hoover. Other topics covered in this book are the Sacco and Vanzetti case, Vikings, Pirates, the link between Organized crime and robberies, Nazi looting of Europe, Terrorism and robberies, and more. This is a very impressive list of cases/biographies/topics, one of the best list I've seen in a long time. This is another great Encyclopedia written and researched by Michael Newton. If, like me, you have a huge passion for Criminology then you must add this book to your library, your collection will never be complete without a copy of this book. As always Newton did a wonderful job researching the entries you'll find in this volume.
