This study of the fauna of ancient Mesopotamia as represented in art was undertaken at the suggestion of the reverend Professor Dr. Alfred Pohl, S. J., Editor of the Analecta Orientaliabecause he thought that a collection of the material might be of use as a handy work of reference to scholars who wished to learn whether a particular animal was known in Mesopotamia, and how and when it was represented.
