Akhand, 2020. — 197 p.Jāti and State in Keralam, prior to the establishment of the British rule had an umbilical relationship. State maintained its order through the system of jātis. The colonial rule unsettled these relationships. The methodological differences between the traditional and colonial systems in the governance paved the way for the exposing of the institutional authority of jātis. Demands for the citizenship and opportunities in the state administration by the jātis who were hither to deprive of these spaces are to be seen as the challenges, both against the state and the jātis.
