The Battle of Marston Moor in 1644 was key in English military history. It was the largest battle of the Civil Wars, and was decisive. This fresh study reconstructs the battle in graphic detail, and tells the story using the words of those who took part. This is a very good explanation of how Marston Moor came to be fought and how it was probably fought. It is very difficult to give a potted history of the very complex first English Civil War but the author creates the context well. The probable orders of battle and the course of the battle are well described and there are many references to, and quotes from primary and other sources.
