A collection of Egyptological essays devoted to one of the first properly documented battles in human history - the Battle of Kadesh on the Orontes River in Syria (late May 1275 or 1274 BCE) in which the Egyptian army of Ramses II met that of the Hittite Empire led by Muwatali II. The battle ends virtually without a winner, regardless of the propaganda boasts of the Egyptian pharaoh. After that, perhaps the first written peace treaty in history was signed.
