This book on Danish prehistory covers the period up to the advent of the Vikings, when the literary sources become sufficiently numerous for us to speak of a historic period. The Viking era in Denmark and the other Scandinavian countries is discussed by Holger Arbman in a separate volume in the ‘Ancient Peoples and Places‘ series. The reader should bear in mind that the Romans did not reach Scandinavia, and that their influence was therefore appreciably less marked in Denmark than in Great Britain.
