The Learner’s Grammar (Part One) consists of a series of Units designed to introduce the chief grammatical features of the language, while the Reader (Part Two) presents selections from Middle Welsh prose and poetry intended to help the learner to consolidate the basic grammatical structures and vocabulary learned in the Grammar. The introduction of constructions in the Grammar has been structured around the order of their appearance in the text Kyfranc Llud a Lleuelys ‘The Tale of Lludd and Llefelys’, which is transcribed complete, and successive sections of which constitute the concluding Unit Readings to each chapter. In each Unit additional reading exercises have been chosen to give authentic examples from the medieval literature of the constructions introduced in the grammatical descriptions. In the first half of the Grammar short grammatical exercises aid the reader to assimilate the material introduced in the Unit, and there is a full Answer Key for self-correction.
